The inspector’s account

Allegation - Staff did not ensure the resident's room was free of pests:

The complaint alleges that there are rat/mice feces inside a resident’s room, as there is a sliding door to the outside. LPAs observed various resident rooms throughout all facility tours and did not observe any evidence of rodents inside resident rooms. LPAs interviewed cleaning staff, all who indicated they have not seen any rodents, droppings, or any evidence in the resident rooms. Staff indicated there is monthly pest control service and there are rodent traps near the kitchen and outside trash enclosure. However, all staff indicated they have never personally seen any rodents in or around the facility. Monthly pest control includes checking the traps and emptying them if needed, however, staff were unsure if any rodents had been found in the enclosed traps. Resident interviews revealed no pests, such as rodents or insects had been observed indoors, only the occasional spider, which the resident stated is expected. Based on the information obtained during the investigation, the Department does not have sufficient evidence to corroborate the allegation. Although the allegation may have happened or is valid, there is not a preponderance of evidence to prove the alleged violation did or did not occur, therefore the above allegation is deemed UNSUBSTANTIATED at this time.

Allegation - Staff did not ensure the facility was kept clean & staff did not ensure the facility was kept free of odors:

The complaint alleges “the smell and filth of the facility is terrible.” Interviews with staff revealed housekeeping is scheduled 7 days a week at the facility and that each occupied room and all common areas are cleaned daily. LPAs observed multiple housekeeping staff present in the facility during all visits conducted at the facility. Each housekeeper has a designated hallway they clean during their shift. Housekeepers clean resident bathrooms, bedrooms, make resident beds, take trash, and clean the common area, including the hallway, in their designated station. Residents interviewed stated their rooms are cleaned daily and residents are satisfied with facility cleanliness. During facility visits, LPAs did not notice any significant odors throughout the facility. Residents interviewed did not indicate smelling anything out of the ordinary at the facility. Staff indicated they did not smell any odors nor have they had complaints from families related to odor.
