The inspector’s account

L icensing Program Analyst (LPA) Magda Malcore made an unannounced visit to the facility to conduct a required comprehensive annual inspection. LPA was granted entry to the facility and met with Administrator, Rachel Riley and staff, Blanca Gonzalez. The facility is a Residential Care Facility for Elderly (RCFE) with a current census of (6) residents in care. LPA conducted a general inspection of facility, which included, but was not limited to, the following:

Operation/Physical Plant: Indoor and outdoor passageways were kept free of obstruction. The facility has no swimming pools or similar bodies of water. The facility has sufficient indoor and outdoor space for resident activities. The backyard activity area is shaded and surrounded by a self latching gate. During bedroom inspection, LPA observed Resident #1 (R1) occupying Room#8, which is located in an additionally added area of the facility. There was no fire clearance for Room #8 approved for resident use and authorization for ambulatory or non-ambulatory resident (s). Resident bedrooms were furnished with beds, night stands, chairs, bed linen and bedroom lighting. Residen t bathrooms were maintained clean and fixtures were operating properly. The hot water temperatures in the bathrooms measured at 112 degrees Fahrenheit. The facility is equipped with operating smoke detectors/carbon monoxide alarms, laundry equipment, emergency disaster/first aid kits, fully charged fire extinguishers, emergency food/water, and telephone service. The facility has posted in a common area Community Care Licensing complaint poster, Ombudsman poster, facility license, evacuation sketch/plan, activities, and emergency telephone numbers. Sharps and cleaning supplies were kept locked.

Food Service: Kitchen and dining areas were maintained cleaned. Non-perishable and perishable food supply was sufficient for number of residents in care. The facility’s refrigerator and freezer were operating properly.
