The inspector’s account

Allegation: Staff does not ensure facility has food of good quality and quantity for residents in care.

During the investigation LPA conducted interviews and a tour of the facility. Facility provided LPA with menu for the week. Staff interviews indicated that they do have a menu but sometimes residents will want something different. Staff will make accommodations within reason. Interview with Staff #1 (S1) revealed that Resident #1 (R1) buys their own food and will keep it in their room. Additionally, on LPAs visit on 08/20/24, LPA observed the facility to have non-perishables for a minimum of seven (7) days and perishable foods for a minimum of two (2) days.

Allegation: Staff do not ensure residents are treated with dignity and respect.

LPA conducted interviews with facility staff. Interviews with staff revealed that they have not witnessed another staff member treating residents without dignity and respect. During LPA visit on 05/08/24 and 08/20/24 LPA observed facility staff to be attentive to residents needs and treating them with dignity and respect. LPA attempted interviews with residents but due to the mental capacity of the residents LPA was unable to interview residents.

Allegation: Staff did not ensure residents was permitted entry to the facility.

During the course of the investigation LPA interviewed three (3) staff who have worked with R1. All staff members indicated they have never, nor have they heard of any other staff locking R1 out of the facility. Interviews with staff indicated that R1 would come and go from the facility. LPA attempted interviews with residents but due to the mental capacity of the residents LPA was unable to interview residents.

Allegation: Staff engaged in an inappropriate altercation with residents in care.

Interviews with staff members indicated that they have never witnessed any inappropriate behavior between staff take place around the Residents or upset Residents in care. During visits conducted at the facility, LPA did not observe any altercations between staff members and clients. Staff were attentive to the needs of residents in care. LPA attempted interviews with residents but due to the mental capacity of the residents LPA was unable to interview residents.

Based on this information, these allegations are UNSUBSTANTIATED . Although the allegation may have happened or is valid, there is not a preponderance of evidence to prove that the alleged violation occurred, and the findings are unsubstantiated.
