The inspector’s account

Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Jill Nakagawa arrived unannounced on 7/16/2024 at approximately 9:45 AM to perform a 1 Year Required Inspection. The facility operates Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 3 PM. The Program provides lunch through a partnership with Meals on Wheels, as well as snacks and beverages.

There were 9 clients attending at the time of inspection. There were 4 staff and 1 volunteer on site.

The main dining/day room has lots of tables to accommodate an array of activities: enjoy meals, do a puzzle, play a game, do an art project, watch a slide show or read the paper. The room also has a grand piano and a variety of other instruments. The kitchen has locked cupboards and drawers for hazardous and/or sharp materials. The laundry room does have a store of cleaning supplies, which are stored behind a locked door. Dangerous items are stored and locked and inaccessible to clients. There was a supply of hygiene products and paper products available for clients, as well as a supply of PPE. All exterior doors are alarmed with all exits free from obstruction. The facility was clean, well-organized and a comfortable temperature of 72 F. The back yard was designed for ample mobility, with shaded pathways and safe water features. The facility has a central fire alarm/sprinkler system. There are 4 fire extinguishers which are fully charged and dated 12/05/2023. The Program is installing a new Administrator. In the meantime, Louise Joyce, the Director of Community Programs will be overseeing the program.
