The inspector’s account

Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Christi Coppo arrived unannounced to conduct a required Annual inspection and was greeted by caregiver. Administrator Makeylia McCorley was not available to come to the facility but gave caregiver permission to sign and available by telephone. Makeylia McCorley Administrator certificate number 6072346735 expires 11/14/26. Upon speaking with Chelsea Gonzalez, Regional Director (RD), LPA learned that facility is closing and that the one last resident remaining will be leaving the facility at the end of this week. LPA advised that LPA will complete annual inspection and then email RD to proceed with facility closure.

At approximately 1:15pm LPA toured the building and grounds. The facility was found to be clean and at a comfortable temperature. LPA observed at least a 2 day supply of perishable food. Facility only has one resident and this resident is on a specialized diet. LPA found quantity of food adequate for one resident with specialized types of food present. Food was found to be stored in a safe manner with open items covered. Kitchen drawer with sharp knives locked. Cleaning supplies located in garage in a metal cabinet was found open and unlocked. Per Admin, cabinet was recently broken and has yet to be replaced. LPA observed that resident is non-ambulatory and cannot access garage. Facility is closing within the next month.

Locked cabinet in kitchen contains many bubble pack medications and other boxes of prescription medications for residents that no longer reside in the facility. LPA discussed with Admin the destruction of medication and regulation 80075(l) which states that these medications must be destroyed when not taken with the departing resident(s). LPA discussed with Admin that pharmacies offer destruction and will also provide the destruction records.
