The inspector’s account

Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Jerome Haley conducted an unannounced visit for the purpose of conducting a required one year infection control annual visit. LPA Haley entered the day program and was greeted by staff and explained the reason for the visit.

Empower Community Day Program is for adults ages 22 - 59 years old, and operates Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM - 12:30 PM. The program offers alternative services as well. The current capacity is 72 and there's 60 registered participants. There were 27 participants present during today's visit, and all were observed to be participating in various activities. LPA Haley observed a screening station at the entrance for client's who are dropped off at the program by their parents. The program provides transportation for participants and each staff are equipped with a thermometer to screen clients when they are picked up. Furthermore, each staff member carries a first aid kit with them and there was a first aid kit with all required elements observed in the supply room.

LPA Haley observed fully charged fire extinguishers in each suite, as well as up stairs in the the Administration/Office section of the program. Fire extinguishers were service and inspected by Cintas in June of 2022. There is a fire drill scheduled tomorrow, October 7, 2022.

The program has a quarantine room and a library that's not being used right now. LPA Haley observed a computer lab as well; however, the computer lab is not being used at this time. The program has provided tablets for all the participants to use at home and when the come to the program for in-person services. The program has three bathrooms for clients and the hot water temperature was in the range of 107.7 - 111.0 degrees Fahrenheit.

No deficiencies are being cited during todays visit. An exit interview conducted and a copy of the report was provided.
