COMPLAINT CONTROL NUMBER: 22-AS-20231117152016

Staff disposed of resident's personal property

Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Kimberly Lyman conducted an unannounced complaint visit to initiate an investigation into the above allegations. LPA was greeted and granted entry into the facility and explained the reason for the visit.

During the course of the investigation, LPA toured the facility and interviewed staff and clients. Regarding the allegation that staff disposed of resident's personal property, the investigation revealed the following: Client 1 indicated the client's shampoo had gone missing. Client stated that the housekeeping staff threw the shampoo in the trash which is where it was located. Staff indicated observing the client retrieve the shampoo from the recycling bin. Staff stated having a conversation with housekeeper regarding disposing of empty shampoo bottles and observed the housekeeper throw the trash into the black trash bin and not the recycling bin. It was not determined if the shampoo bottle was empty and it is unknown how the shampoo bottle ended up in the recycling bin. Based on interviews conducted, LPA is unable to corroborate the allegation. Therefore, the allegation is deemed unsubstantiated, meaning that although the allegation may have happened or are valid, there is not a preponderance of the evidence to prove that the alleged violation occurred. Exit interview conducted and a copy of this report was provided.
