Complaint Investigation Report
Allegation: Staff is mismanaging client's medications. It has been alleged that clients’ medications are being thrown away. Staff interviews revealed that staff do not mismanage clients' medications (including throwing away medications). Interviewed staff indicated that medications that are no longer necessary are sent back to the pharmacy for destruction. Interviewed staff indicated that clients’ medications are administered as prescribed. Staff interviews revealed that all clients’ medications are refilled in a timely manner and have not had any issues. Interviewed staff indicated that they have not had any concerns/complaints pertaining to this matter. Interviews do not corroborate this allegation.
Allegation: Staff are falsifying medication logs. It has been alleged that staff are falsifying the clients' medication logs. Staff interviews revealed that staff do not falsify medication logs. Interviewed staff indicated that the Medication Administration Records (MARs) are initialed once the medications have been administered. Interviewed staff also indicated that staff complete a medication verification log on a daily basis to verify that medications have been administered within (1) hour of medication administration on each shift. Interviewed staff indicated that they have not had any concerns/complaints pertaining to this matter. Interviews do not corroborate this allegation.
Although the allegation(s) may have happened or is valid, there is not a preponderance of evidence to prove the alleged violation(s) did or did not occur, therefore the allegations are unsubstantiated.
