The inspector’s account

Interviews with staff revealed 4 out of 7 staff stated the A/C is working throughout the facility, 2 out of 7 staff stated the A/C was recently repair on the left side of the building as it broke down, and 1 out of 7 staff stated the A/C is not working on the right side of the building. Per administrator the A/C was repair the same day and fans were brought in and provided to the clients in the meantime. Per assistant administrator a breaker burned out and had to be replace. Per maintenance staff the temperature is set at 70 degrees throughout the buildings during the summer. During the tour LPA observed the A/C working throughout the buildings and temperature thermostat was observed reading at 71 degrees. Copy of invoice for checking of 5 A/C units and replacement of breaker dated 6/7/24 was reviewed.

Although the allegation may have happened or is valid, there is not a preponderance of evidence to prove the alleged violation(s) did or did not occur, therefore the allegation is UNSUBSTANTIATED.

Regarding allegation: Staff are not providing a comfortable temperature for client. It is alleged client is sweating just sitting in the room due to A/C not working. Interviews conducted with clients revealed 6 out of 10 clients stated temperature is fine and does not feel hot in their rooms, 4 out of 10 clients stated that it does feel hot in their rooms and must open the sliding door to help. Interviews with staff revealed 5 out of 7 staff stated temperature is not hot in the building, 1 out of 7 staff stated it feels hot in the rooms in which the sliding doors are open, and 1 out of 7 staff stated that it feels hot in the right side of the building only. During the tour LPA observed 2 out of the 9 rooms felt a bit warmer than the rest of the rooms and 7 rooms had a cooler temperature. Temperature was reasonable throughout the facility and not hot.

Although the allegation may have happened or is valid, there is not a preponderance of evidence to prove the alleged violation(s) did or did not occur, therefore the allegation is UNSUBSTANTIATED.

Regarding allegation: Staff are not treating client with dignity and respect. It is alleged staff slammed the door in client’s face and was being mean to client for no reason. Interviews with clients revealed 8 out of 10 clients stated that staff are respectful and are not mistreated by the staff, 2 out of 10 clients stated staff are disrespectful towards clients by the way they speak to them. Interviews with staff revealed 7 out of 7 staff stated the staff are respectful and there have not been any incidents between the clients and the staff. A staff stated to have heard the clients make comments about not liking how the administrator speaks to them but has not observed any incidents. Last staff training on client rights was provided on 5/31/24.
