The inspector’s account

Licensing Program Analyst (LPA), Mayra Cota, conducted an unannounced annual visit. LPA met with Assistant Administrator Shajuana Bradford and Gilbert Cardenas, Administrator, arrived thereafter and assisted with the visit and the tour of the facility. The reason for the visit was explained. The physical plant was inspected along with client and staff records, food supply and medication. The facility is licensed to serve developmentally disabled clients between the ages of 18 to 59 and receive services from South Central L.A. Regional Center. Home is licensed to serve four clients. One client was present during the visit and three clients were away at day program. The facility is a single home, located within a residential neighborhood.

LPA inspected and observed the following:

Three client bedrooms, one bathroom, living room, kitchen, dining area and laundry area inside a detached garage. Client bedrooms (three) have the required furniture such as bed frames, dressers, adequate lighting, and chairs. Bedrooms also have sufficient closet space. Client beds have the required linen, and the linen is in good condition. The water temperature in the bathroom was tested and observed to be within the required regulation of 105 - 120 degrees F. Sufficient linen and personal hygiene supplies were observed in a hallway closet. The living room furniture is clean and well maintained. Activity items were observed and are accessible to clients. The kitchen was observed to be clean and for the ability to prepare and serve food. Appliances in the kitchen were observed to be functional and clean. Sharps and cleaning supplies were observed to be locked in a kitchen cabinet and inaccessible to clients. The outdoor environment which consists of a front and backyard was observed to be well maintained and there are no pools or large bodies of water. A shaded and seating area located in the back patio is available and accessible to the clients. The detached garage was observed to be locked and only accessible for laundry tasks (staff assisting clients with washing and drying). Washer and dryer were operable and in good repair. Washing detergents were observed to be locked.
