The inspector’s account

Licensing Program Analyst (LPA), Mayra Cota conducted an unannounced required annual visit today. LPA met with Angelica Real, Program Director and explained the reason for the visit. The facility is licensed as an Adult Day Program for 35 consumers ages 18 and over; approved for (2) non-ambulatory clients. The program’s hours are 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (scattered schedule) and it is community based. Consumers are provided with services through the Harbor Regional Center. The program follows a staff to client ration of 1:3. At the time of visit, 17 consumers were in participation at the facility. The facility is in a business center in Artesia. The facility consists of a front office, (5) administrative offices, copy area, staff desk area, conference room, computer room, art room, living room/gaming, consumer lockers/extra clothes storage cabinet, kitchen, dining area, (2) gender neutral bathrooms and (1) janitorial and (1) file and emergency supply closet.

The following was observed during the visit:

The overall facility is clean, safe, sanitary and in good repair. All passageways and exits are free from obstructions. Offices were clean and sharp office items were kept locked and inaccessible to consumers. The activity rooms have sufficient seating, and furniture is in good repair. The kitchen was observed clean. Appliances are also clean and operable. Cooking activities are conducted when scheduled; however, consumers must bring their own food. Consumers can store their food in the facility’s refrigerator and use the kitchen to prepare light meals using their own groceries. Knives are kept locked in an office and authorized staff must sign them out for use. Facility does not keep or manage consumers’ medication. Both bathrooms are kept clean and water in the sinks measured 110.4 and 114.6 degrees F. which is within compliance range. Sufficient cleaning supplies were observed in the janitorial closet. The facility has an emergency supply of water and snacks in the file room. ***Continues on LIC 809-C
