04/30/2024 11:15 AM Licensing Program Analyst Rebecca Knight conducted an unannounced case management visit and met with administrator Anita Macias. Today’s visit is regarding an incident that occurred on 04/23/2024.

It was reported that on 04/23/2024 at approximately 3:30pm Client 1 (C1) arrived home from the adult day program. A short while later C1 started to become bright red over their face, tops of her ears, the left side of their scalp above the ear, continuing over their shoulders and along their upper back and neck and down both arms back. C1 stated they went with their day program to the park.

During the course of the investigation, it was learned that it was National Picnic In the Park Day and all of the clients went to the park adjacent to the day program. Tents and pops up shade was set up for the clients. Clients were in the park for about 3 hours. Staff offered to put sunscreen on C1 multiple times but C1 refused the sunscreen. C1 was standing under the pop up the whole time but C1 must not have been fully under the awning. No sunburn was noticed on C1 during the picnic.

In order to prevent this from happening again the day program will notify the client's homes to put sunscreen on the clients before arriving at program each day as the clients normally spend some time outside every day. Clients who chose not to wear sunscreen will be encouraged to stay in the shade and monitored to ensure they are in the shade.

No deficiencies are being cited as a result of today’s visit. A copy of the report provided to Anita Macias.
