This is an official report of an unannounced visit/investigation of a complaint received in our office on
09/23/2022 and conducted by Evaluator Jesse Gardner
COMPLAINT CONTROL NUMBER: 18-AS-20220923102600
Staff did not ensure resident obtained medications in a timely manner.
Staff did not ensure that resident attended scheduled medical appointments
Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Jesse Gardner conducted an unannounced visit to deliver the findings of the above allegation. LPA met with House Manager Natalia Sanchez and toured the facility. Administrator Adilene Quintanilla arrived while LPA was inside the facility.
The investigation included interviews with facility staff, and a review of facility records.
It was alleged that staff did not contact the pharmacy to ensure that medications be delivered timely. Regarding the allegation, "Staff did not ensure resident obtained medication in a timely manner.", LPA conducted interviews with staff, and reviewed documentation. Interviews and documentation revealed that Resident One (R1) had an ordered change of medication on 9/26/2022 and the medication was due to start on 9/28/2022. LPA found that the resident received their new dosage of medication on 9/28/2022 to being administration as ordered by their doctor.
Regarding the allegation, “Staff did not ensure that resident attended scheduled medical appointments.” LPA reviewed documentation, and concluded that on the two most recent doctor visits prior to the complaint found that on 9/2/2022, R1 was seen by their doctor, and on 9/13/2022, R1 refused to get out of the van to enter the doctor’s office. Due to conflicting statements provided by confidential sources, as well as documents provided by the Licensee, LPA found that the allegation was UNSUBSTANTIATED.
Thus, the allegations were found to be UNSUBSTANTIATED. A finding of UNSUBSTANTIATED means that although the allegation may have happened or is valid, there is not a preponderance of evidence to prove the alleged violation did or did not occur.
An exit interview was conducted, where a copy of this report was discussed and given along with a copy of the LIC811 (confidential names list).
